RECLAD

From damage to done: A complete home reclad

The challenge

Laurie Bates discovered water leaks in his 1998-built home— this led to rotting bottom plates, internal strapping, and Gib®. If left unresolved, the damage would continue to spread, compromising the structure and liveability of the house.

Why the problem existed

The original build lacked essential features, including a nib by the garage door, allowing water to pool and seep inside. Over time, this caused rot in the walls and flooring, hidden until symptoms appeared—cracks, soft floors, and deteriorated interiors.

The search for a solution

Laurie sought quotes from the market and based on a referral from his neighbours, chose Platinum Pacific Group as his builders, even though, in his words, PPG were not the cheapest. What started out as a cosmetic change turned out to be a substantial rebuild and Laurie’s criteria for his builder of choice included proven experience, a clear plan, and someone who could take charge of the project.

Why they chose Platinum Pacific Group

Laurie had seen PPG’s work—under the direction of managing director Marty Bamford—on the neighbouring house and heard glowing endorsements. He valued Marty’s upfront estimate, project management capability, and trusted his transparent and methodical approach. It wasn’t only about price—it was also about trust.

The solution

Under the project management of Marty, PPG delivered a comprehensive reclad, including removing old cladding, replacing internal bracing and Gib®, rebuilding rotten timber walls and decks, and installing new ceilings, decks, and floors.

The plaster cladding was replaced with weatherboards, triggering necessary technical detail changes which included modification of the roof. Given the state of the roof, it was decided to include a full roof retile to meet code, provide a full warranty and maintain aesthetics.

What worked well

Laurie appreciated Marty’s planning, communication, and the quality of his tradespeople. He coordinated with neighbours, maintained access, and handled council consents. Despite working on a multi-level, shared-access site, disruption was minimised thanks to proactive neighbour engagement by Platinum Pacific Group.

The outcome

Two years on, the home remains problem-free. The reclad brought peace of mind resolved the risk of further water ingress, and significantly improved the home’s appearance and value. “It looks a million dollars,” says Laurie.

Final thoughts

Laurie describes the experience as positive throughout. “Nothing is a problem for Marty. He had good tradespeople, good communication, and coordinated with everyone involved. We’re really pleased—we’d absolutely recommend him.”
